Vine do appreciate living on this rolling countryside of hills...

The Côtes de Bordeaux cover 13,5000 hectares, 40 000 acres on 91 villages.

geographie

The City of Blaye which gives its name to the Côtes de Blaye AOC, is located on the right bank of the Gironde, 50 km from Bordeaux. To the south, steep vine covered slopes dominate the Estuary.

The st Ciers sur Gironde area is characterized by clayish and gravelly knolls where Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted for the red wines whereas Sauvignon is planted for the white ones.

The Premières Côtes de Bordeaux spread in a thin 60 km long, 5 km large strip of vineyard, from the north of Bordeaux to Langon, on the chalky cliff hugging every contour of the right bank of the Garonne.

The Côtes de de Castillon are limited to the west by the St Emilion hills, to the south by the Dordogne river and to the east by the Dordogne department.

The Francs city ( Côtes de Francs AOC appellation) is a small town on the Dordogne department border, 10 km to the north of Castillon la Bataille. It's located between the Isle valleys and the Dordogne.

Vines feel at ease on these succession of hillsides and valleys. The estuary or rivers banks offer ideal conditions for the production of great wines : the vines can bask in the sun, are well sheltered from the spring frosts and the soils are well drained.
